On the 30th day of the 7th month in the 503rd leap year, Mimi's heart broke into eight pieces like a peony unleafing. As a blessing from the heavens, these pieces sprung to life as separate deities of wellbeing aiding against life's tribulations. The cavity that once contained Mimi's heart healed into the shape of a star. Thus, Mimi became renewed.
Mimi Zhang is an interdisciplinary sculpture artist with a basis in painting. Their ongoing work utilizes lived experiences for the purpose of biomythography, which is the combination of myth, history, and biography into one epic narrative. By combining the fantastical with slices of life, they maintain playful elements in their work while still addressing the bitter realities of marginalized experiences. Using various mediums, their art creates unique sensory narrative avenues with an emphasis on viewer participation. Mimi’s work has been exhibited in California, Ohio, New York, and Massachusetts. As of 2020, they are the youngest artist to be included in the Summa Health Art collection. In 2024, they won the Juror's Choice from Boston City Hall's Fay Chandler Emerging Art Exhibition. Mimi also started an art collective called Catgirl Virus with a friend a few years back.
